Nowadays, the right packaging will not only protect the product but will draw people to it and give them a pleasant unboxing experience. The unboxing of a product has become something that brands are concentrating on. This is because people want to enjoy all parts of the product, including its unboxing.

One type of packaging that can give this experience is custom sliding boxes. These boxes are made with strong material so that they keep the product safe, and they are made to appeal to the consumer base as well. They slide open in a luxurious way, exciting people who want to see the product.

What are sliding boxes?

These are also known as sleeve or drawer boxes. It is a style of packaging that includes two pieces which often open with a pulling or sliding movement.

The packaging contains a protective outer sleeve which wraps around the inner area of the product. The inner tray or drawer is what holds the item and slides smoothly out of the sleeve. It does this similarly to a matchbox.

There is usually a ribbon pull or rope or even a finger hole to slide the inner tray out in an easy and luxurious way.

The following looks at unboxing experience trends in slide-style packaging:

Tactile reveal

Brands aim to give people an overall wonderful experience. They do this by including certain finishing impacts, such as a tactile impact on the box to make it feel different and unique.

Brands are choosing sliding drawer boxes so that customers physically interact with the box. The precise engineering of the sleeve friction gives one a smooth and controlled resistance. This feels exclusive, luxurious, and deliberate, making people want to check out the product.

The packaging may also include a tactile impact that feels similar to the product, which makes people want to interact with the box.

High-end pull mechanics

Brands are including upgraded pull mechanics that feel high-end when people are opening the box. Minimalist thumb notches may be paired with tactile pull tabs. This can include something like grosgrain ribbons, fabric pulls, etc.

Features such as these give the box a sensory luxury cue that feels elegant and increases the perceived value of the product when people touch the box and are opening it.

Eco-friendly materials

Sustainable packaging is trending; therefore, brands are trying to design these boxes in an eco-conscious way so that more people will be drawn to it. Sustainable luxury is being considered here.

Packaging manufacturers are using heavy, FSC-certified recycled boards and mono-material paper structures. They are using water-based coatings so that the packaging remains sustainable and premium at the same time.

These boxes are strong and able to give the image of quality whilst protecting the product. They therefore draw people to them and make them want to buy the product, as they trust the brand is a responsible one.

Continuous packaging appeal

The boxes are being designed so that when people open the box, it is connected to the outer packaging box design. Brands employ the liner motion of the box to develop continuous artwork which excites people and makes them want to know more about the brand.

Graphics on the outer area, along with the inner tray, will align and give one full image only when the box is completely pulled open.

A brand will design this box to convey the values of the brand and let people know about the product. For instance, luxury brands will keep the design minimal and include patterns but not images.

Colors such as gold, silver, rose gold, white, etc. will be used to convey elegance and immediately let people know they can expect a high-end item in the box.

Brands will add their consistent brand details, such as their brand logo and brand colors, to help people find their product in the market.

Digital packaging design

The box can include hidden QR codes inside the inner tray and also on the edge of the sleeve. When people scan these codes, they will know about the brand and the product. The business will not have to add many details about the item on the box.

These interactive codes are useful as they make the box interactive and engage people so that they can learn about the brand.

Sliding boxes are able to give people a luxurious unboxing experience that they remember and want to share on social media. This custom rigid box is being chosen by brands that want to draw people to what they are selling and excite them by making all parts of the product perfect, including the packaging.

The packaging stands out due to its high-end design and makes people want to consider the brand and the product it is selling, even when it is placed alongside the competition in the market.
